Sneak Peak | Hellsing FanFiction: When Sir Integra's Not Home

🔞UNSUITABLE FOR THOSE UNDER 18🔞

Sir Integra has to go away for a few hours for an important royal conference. As a result, she is forced to leave her two pet vampires home alone. What could possibly go wrong?

With a giggle, Seras skipped her way towards the recreational area of the manor, eagerly bursting through the doors of the TV room. Her eyes sparkled greedily at the giant plasma screen that hung on the wall. A large cushioned sofa faced it, and surround sound speakers dotted every corner of the room. This was going to be great!

Seras practically threw herself onto the cushions, instantly kicking off her boots and putting her feet up before turning on the telly. There were so many shows that she wanted to catch up on, that she wasn’t sure what to go for first. There was so much she had to cram into five hours. The latest series of Bake Off was the first thing that appeared once the screen had loaded. Pretty interesting, but not her top priority. She switched to Netflix instead and began flicking through her ‘to watch’ list, hoping that none of the soldiers had messed with it.

Eventually, the draculina settled on Black Mirror since she’d heard a few of her men raving about it. She placed the remote down on the arm of the chair and cuddled a cushion to her chest as her red eyes glued themselves to the screen. If she had still been human, she would have loved to have some popcorn or maybe even a glass of wine right now.

Minutes passed as Seras became engrossed in the first episode, her face occasionally twisting in disgust as the plot unfolded. Just as the severed finger was discovered, the episode froze. Frowning, Seras picked up the remote, only for it to start playing again. Just as Seras placed the remote back down, everything froze again.

Seras tutted. “Stupid internet.”

Nothing seemed to want to budge, so Seras went back to regular old TV again, disappointed that it had cut off while she had been so engrossed. Cheesy prime-time telly it was then. Oh well. Quiz shows were always fun, she supposed.

However, the draculina only got five minutes of peaceful watch-time before the signal started to play up. This time, Seras started to grow annoyed. Hellsing manor had the latest state-of-the-art satellite disks, and the weather was clear, so why was the TV having so many issues? She attempted to change the channel, only for the entire picture to freeze. In a last ditch attempt, Seras then began banging the remote against the arm of the chair. The TV glitched before switching to…

Oh my!

Seras squeaked and blushed bright red when the sound of moaning began filling the room in all its surround sound glory. Of course her men had subscribed to porn channels! The poor flustered woman sat on her knees as she started desperately pressing buttons on the remote in hopes of changing the channel back, but the bloody thing wasn’t working! The volume turned itself up even more, and Seras didn’t think her face had ever felt so hot. She didn’t know where to look!

One of the actors grabbed hold of their cock and Seras squeaked again, focusing down on the remote instead. Her eyes seemed to want to naturally gravitate back in morbid curiosity - no! Focus on fixing the remote! Maybe a button was stuck? Oh please, don’t be the TV itself, otherwise she would be forced to look up at it in order to fix it! But in her panic, Seras accidentally used too much of her vampire strength and snapped the remote in half. Bits of plastic went flying in all directions, and the batteries fell to the floor with a loud thump.

“Gah!” Seras yelped as she launched herself off the sofa and towards the TV. She tried to keep looking away, but of course, she caught a glimpse of what was going on out of the corner of her eye. The guy had pulled his cock almost all the way out only to slam back in his female partner, the camera focused on it the entire time. No no no no!

Seras finally found the plug for the TV and pulled. Finally, the picture was gone, and the room was quiet again. The vampire sighed in relief, dropping the plug to place her hands on her hot cheeks to help cool herself down. That was so weird and embarrassing. Why had the TV broken like that? It had been in perfectly good working order yesterday. Maybe she should just head back to her room and read a book or a magazine instead.

But before the blonde vampire could even move, a low chuckle began to fill the room.

“My my, police girl, I never realised you had such taste in entertainment.”

Seras froze, not daring to look behind her. Of course he saw. Her master always had the worst timing. So much for him sleeping in his room all evening; Seras could never be so lucky.

“To sink to such human ways of satiating one’s carnal needs.”

“M-Master…” she stuttered pathetically.

“If you wanted more of that -”

“Master, please!”

Alucard chuckled again, and Seras could hear his boots squeak as he moved to sit down on the sofa that she had just been occupying. Meanwhile, Seras herself didn’t dare move. She wouldn’t be surprised if her master had purposefully messed with the TV just to embarrass her. He had so much dirt on her now. Though, she was honestly surprised that he had come to see her. She thought that after everything that had happened the other night that it would have been best if they avoided each other. But maybe her master had forgotten the whole thing completely or just saw it as one big joke? It had been one gigantic mistake, and one that would definitely never happen again. That’s all she probably ever was to him.

“I’m going to my room,” Seras declared as she was now fighting back tears. She bit her lip as she avoided all eye contact with her master and made a beeline for the stairs to the basement.

“Seras,” her master breathed in her ear.

The draculina swatted at the empty air behind her before she felt something tickle the inside of her thigh. Seras gasped in surprise before tripping on the last step and almost landing flat on her face. She whipped her head around, but there was nothing but darkness behind her. Either she was imagining things or her master was playing some sort of cruel joke on her. She certainly wasn’t going to stick around and find out. So she straightened herself up before heading into her quarters, slamming her door behind her. The metal groaned, and it looked like a new crack had formed in the wall, but the female vampire couldn’t bring herself to care.

With a sigh, she pressed her back against the door as she attempted to collect her bearings. Hopefully her master would get the message that she was in no mood to be toyed with. But then again, if her master was bored enough… She would just have to ignore him. Give him no reaction. That’s what he was after after all. She would stand her ground.

Determined to enjoy her night off, Seras flopped into her coffin while grabbing a magazine she had left on the side. It was just a cheesy women’s gossip magazine that she was often teased for reading, but it helped Seras feel more a part of the outside world again. She didn’t really care for the lives of these celebrities and random women but more about the feeling of normality that they brought her.

She picked up where she had left off before she sensed her master walk right through her bedroom wall. She suppressed the urge to roll her eyes and maintained her plan of ignoring him. Biting into her bottom lip, Seras turned the page over, her brain not really processing the words there. Her cheeks still felt slightly warm, and she was acutely aware of every movement her master made; she just hoped that all of this wasn’t obvious to him.

Without even looking at him, she knew that he was smirking. His eyes glowed as he loomed in the dark corner of her room that her lamplight could not quite reach. Then again, her master probably absorbed all the light that reached him, just like a black hole. Seras hadn’t escaped him last time, but this time, she would.

“You are being very rude to ignore your master, police girl,” Alucard taunted.

Seras refused to take the bait and carried on reading.

“You ought to be careful, or I may have to punish you.”

Sneak Peak | Black Butler Fanfiction: Break Through Time

NOTE: I'm still in two minds of what to name this story. I'm stuck between 'Lex Talionis' and 'Break Through Time'. But at the moment, I think I am leaning more towards 'Break Through Time'.

The long walk down the seldom used country road brought on a wave of mixed feelings. Nostalgia gently caressed over her mind before a tidal wave of bad memories soon followed, crashing over her. The lone walker continued on despite these feelings; she had been prepared for them.

Suppressing them, she clutched at her camera that dangled in its bag from her right shoulder, occasionally brushing against her thigh as she pressed on. The afternoon air was filled with drizzle, obscuring the horizon. Not that there was much to see. This place had fallen apart years ago. What were once large, majestic fields were now overgrown with unkempt grass and weeds. Moss oozed out of the cracks in the road, making wet sounds beneath the walker's black ankle boots.

Ordinarily, this would be enough to make anyone turn around and not bother. But this was actually perfect. It created the perfect atmosphere, just what the young woman needed for inspiration. The dreary mist hung low in the air, reminding her very much of a horror movie. Despite the annoyance of being back here after all these years, she couldn't help the smile that tugged at the corner of her shell-pink lips.

That smile soon disappeared though as the large manor finally emerged like a monster from the depths of the mist. Though having fallen into disrepair, it was still a beautiful sight. Ever since the fire ten years ago, she had been forbidden from coming back here by her mother. In fact, the fire seemed to have been just the excuse her mother needed in order to leave. Her grandfather had always been very strict. The family should stay together. The land was theirs and had been for many generations. To even contemplate leaving was unthinkable. It was a duty to stay. But to her mother, that duty had been nothing more than a prison sentence.

“I refuse to be stuck here all my life, dad!”

“To run this estate is an honour!”

“Yeah, well not for me! I've got better things to do with my life than babysit this stupid old place. I refuse to have Jem stuck here for the rest of her life too! I want better for her!”

“Don't play the doting mother act on me, young lady! We both know that Jem will soon be under your feet, except you'll be on your own! You'll no longer have me as a babysitter on demand!”

“Good! She's already turning into a grumpy little bitch just like you!”

Smack!

Jem had listened to the whole argument through the crack in the door. She was supposed to have been in bed, but all of the shouting had kept her awake. Not to mention she had been going through a phase of being terrified of her closet.

That had been the night of the fire. Not long after that argument, her grandfather had suffered a stroke while smoking his cigar in his favourite chair. They had all been lucky to get out of there alive. But the stroke combined with being starved of oxygen due to the smoke had led to permanent damage to her grandfather. He remained in a home until this very day; of course there was no way her mother would look after him. Because of all of this, no one had lived in their family manor since. The place had fallen into complete disrepair. The fire hadn't destroyed too much, but nature had soon staked its claim on the place.

The gardens were overgrown. Flowers were replaced with weeds. Large hedges that had once been beautifully shaped now grew out of control, their branches contorting in random directions. Weeds also grew from the gaps in the stone pathways. The white stone the manor was built from was now a dirty grey in colour, appearing mostly black in the areas that the fire had reached. Luckily there wasn't any graffiti as little to no people knew of this place. Jem had always been lonely while growing up as a result of this. But it made the perfect setting for her latest college project.

As Jem was about to approach to get a closer look, bright headlights soon blinded her, preventing her from moving further. The sound of tires against gravel echoed all around her, and the headlights soon turned along with the car that slowed down to pull up alongside her. The silver paintwork almost blended in with the foggy air around them. Loud music blasted from inside before shutting off along with the engine. Then finally, the occupant stepped out and gave the manor an unsure look.

“Oh... well... ummm... I'm not gonna lie, Jem, but when you said we were going to your family's old estate, I expected something a lot more fancy than this,” the other woman proclaimed while still eyeing the manor wearily.

Jem rolled her eyes. “What did you expect, Megan? It has been abandoned for over ten years.”

“I don't know about this... What if someone sees us?”

“Like who? The cows?”

As if to emphasise her point, one of the cows grazing in a distant field mooed loudly.

Megan giggled and shook her head.

“Plus, it's not trespassing if its your own property,” Jem added with a smug grin.

“Fair enough.” Megan gave the manor one last once over before turning to look at her friend. “So, this is the Phantomhive manor?”

“Yep,” Jem replied as she began pulled out her camera ready to begin.

“This is where you grew up?”

“Yep.”

“That certainly explains a lot.”

It took a second for the jibe to register, to which Jem turned to punch Megan in the arm. “What're you trying to say?”

Megan laughed. “Just that your weird old house matches your weird personality.”

Jem huffed, but refused to retort. If she ended up getting into a banter match with Megan, then she would never be able to get her work done. She was already worried about how far behind she was with this project. She'd had a severe creative block for a few weeks, and now she only had one week left to get all of this work done. She could ask her tutor for an extension, but she didn't dare try that one after what happened last time. It wasn't Jem's fault that she didn't have time to organised herself. Okay, maybe that was only half true. But juggling college and work was a difficult task. Especially since her mum had pissed off to Spain to be with her new fella. Now the bills all fell down to her. Not that her mum ever paid them herself anyway...

“Let's go,” Jem announced, shaking herself out of her thoughts. If she thought about her mother any more, then it was likely to sour her whole mood completely.

“Wait, what?” Megan froze. “You mean... inside?”

“Yeah?”

Megan's eyes remained locked on the manor, and she pulled her pink waterproof jacket tighter around herself. Her brown eyes betrayed her unease. Jem honestly never thought her best friend would be so bothered by the place. Did it really look that intimidating to outsiders?

Jem's sapphire blue eyes glanced back to look at her old home. To her, she just saw a pile of old rubbish and bad memories. But perhaps to those who weren't used to the place, it would look rather... spooky. After all, the manor was built during the Georgian era, though rumour had it that it had burnt completely down in the late 1800s. Her mother had always joked that their family was cursed. Apparently her great-grandfather, Ciel Phantomhive had re-built the place, increased the family fortune, and practically brought their family back from near extinction. Her grandfather had always held great admiration towards his own grandfather, Ciel. He used to tell her so many stories about his achievements.

“You're not scared are you?” Jem began smirking again, turning away from her friend to continue heading towards the dilapidated building.

“What? No!” Megan's frantic footsteps sounded from behind as she rushed to catch up. “It's just, you don't know what could be lurking in there, that's all. There could be squatters! They could be waiting in there high on coke right now, ready to stab us as soon as we enter!”

“You have a very vivid imagination, Megan,” Jem sighed as she began searching the windows for a way in. Most of the windows had been boarded up. The front door was locked, and only her grandfather had the key. Jem had tried rummaging through his personal belongings during her last visit she paid him, but to no avail. All she found was a bunch of old family photos and keepsakes. When she had tried asking her grandfather about it, he had only gotten confused and upset.

“I'm just trying to be realistic!”

Jem sighed again. “I promise you, there's no squatters. Hardly anybody knows about this place. We're in the middle of nowhere. Nobody ever comes out here. Now can we please get on with this film? I want to finish before it gets dark, and I'll have so much editing to do.”

Sneak Peak | Hellsing Fanfiction: Banquet of Consequences

The autumn air was heavy and most melancholy. Leaves were scattered across the ground, crunching beneath the slightest pressure or stirred through the air by the slightest breeze. A crow’s cries filled the overcast sky as the evening grew darker and darker. The long forgotten church cemetery was like a bleak oasis in the middle of everything. It had been mostly left forgotten. Weeds snaked their way up the chipped and rusted metal bars that reached waist height. Dirt paths had long been neglected and overgrown.

Many stone graves stood to attention. Some were in better condition than others. While some had a more fine finish, others clearly displayed their old age through cracks and the moss that covered their complexion, spreading across the stones like a disease. Names had long since faded and been forgotten. Flowers lay rotten in front of many of them. Toys and teddy bears dirtied and aged; candles long burnt out.

The church itself was also abandoned. The windows that were once beautiful stained glass were now smashed and hollow, displaying nothing but darkness within the building. Tiles had slipped from the roof, and the intricate detail of the gargoyles had long since eroded away. The doors had been bordered up with graffiti that covered most of the exterior.

Black boots crunched through the leaves, their steps graceful and purposeful. The leather boots ended where white stockings began, highlighting the long and toned legs of their owner. The rest of her attire was hidden by a thick dark red coat and a black scarf. Held in the hands covered in black leather gloves was a bouquet of flowers, each different in colour and decorated with pink ribbons. They were cradled gently in the owner’s hands as she pressed forward. Her lips were pressed into a tight line, and her pale skin almost appeared to glow in the approaching night. Her wild blonde hair was mostly hidden by a black woolly hat. Not that she had any need for these warm clothes, but it was for the sake of keeping up appearances.

Seras Victoria approached the old metal gate that led to the church grounds. It creaked and protested as they tangled weeds clung onto the bars, fighting to keep it in place. Seras merely pushed harder, and it soon gave way under her strength. It swung shut behind her with a loud clang. The noise made her cringe, but at least there was no need to worry about attracting attention; this place had long been abandoned.

Her red eyes scanned the dilapidated graveyard, letting out a sorrowful sigh as she did so. When she had been human, places like this had always given her the creeps, but there was also something peaceful about them at the same time. The dead were not bad company it seemed. Decades ago, Seras would have probably been among them. But she had refused. A decision she had never regretted, but all the same, one could never help but ponder the ‘what ifs’. Would they have even have bothered to have laid her to rest here as per her moral wishes? Probably not, Seras thought to herself with another sigh. As a human, she had always been alone and uncared for.

Well… maybe not always…

The grave was exactly where Seras remembered it, despite her fading human memories. It had been decades since she had been here, and the guilt gripped her throat in a strangling hold. She almost felt too ashamed to continue further, but she held her ground. How often was it that Sir Integra let her leave unsupervised like this? It had taken years of building trust with the woman that Seras had long began to think of as a mother figure. She’d never been aloud this far from the Hellsing estate on her own before. She wasn’t going to waste it.

Taking a deep breath, Seras forced herself forward, her eyes never straying from her destination. The single gravestone was slightly more removed from all of the others. Dead leaves and flowers covered the plot and moss had grown almost completely over the front side of the gravestone. It stabbed at her long dead heart to see the place in such a state. She should have been here to take care of them. She had abandoned them.

Feeling a single blood red tear trickle down her cheek, Seras bent down so that she was resting on her knees, not caring about the mud and dirt that would stain her stockings. She gently placed the flowers down in front of the grave, taking great care in making sure that none of the delicate flowers were crushed or moved out of place in the process.

She then turned her attention towards the gravestone itself, reaching one gloved hand up to scratch away the moss the hid the carved-in words from view. They had faded slightly, but they were still there.

Here lies David Victoria and Jayne Victoria
A devoted husband and wife, and loving parents
Taken too soon 10th November 1987
May their souls forever rest in peace

Seras had never been sure who had sorted their funeral and saw to their gravestone, but she guessed it would have had to have been people from her father’s work. She didn’t remember much about the funeral, other than it was raining and that there weren’t many people in attendance. Seras herself was also still recovering from the attack and remembered that she had been covered in bandages that she just wanted to rip off. She had wanted to throw herself into the grave after her mother and father, desiring nothing more than to be buried with them.

She had squeezed the hand of the deputy, who had always been kind to her, so hard that day. She never let go. For as long as she could remember, Seras had always instinctively reached out to hold people’s hands when she was scared. That one small piece of contact always reassured her. How many hands had she crushed in search of comfort? Probably too many to count.

After all of that, she had been swiftly taken away, unable to return to this site until she was sixteen and could leave the orphanage to get her own place. She had worked two jobs at the time just to make ends meet before signing up to join the metropolitan police. For as long as she could remember, she had always wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps. But at that point, it was much more personal. She didn’t want to allow monsters like the ones who had killed her parents to continue to exist in this world. She knew it was a long shot, but she had always secretly hoped to come across the two men who had murdered her parents that night.

But it wasn’t to be.

Those monsters had gotten away with everything.

“I’m sorry,” Seras whispered into the cold night air. “I never had the chance to try and catch them. I hope that you can forgive me.”

Deep down, Seras knew that her parents would want her to move on from it and not focus all of her attention of catching the monsters responsible. It was too late now anyway. It was approaching the fiftieth anniversary of that night. The monsters would probably be long dead by now.

“I wish I could visit you more often,” Seras’ voice grew louder as her voice cracked with emotion. “I wonder what you think about what I’ve done… about what I’ve become…”

The gravestone stared back at her silently.

“I’m sure father would have liked Sir Integra very much. They have so much in common,” Seras continued to chat away. “My master on the other hand… well… not many people tend to get along with him. But I think he likes me. At least, I like to hope that he does anyway. I know that I’ll never be alone with him and I’ll follow him forever. I mean, he didn’t have to take me under his wing, but he did anyway.”

Seras was beginning to feel stupid talking to herself like this, but she could almost imagine her parents sitting there in front of her, their eyes kind as they listened to her. It gave her comfort, and she couldn’t help but continue to talk.

“I’m sorry that I’ve left you here. Sir Integra rarely lets me leave the estate unsupervised. Not only that, but she tends to keep me busy with missions, though it’s thankfully been quiet lately. You have no idea how hard it was to persuade her to let me come here. But, I think… I think she trusts me…” Seras trailed off. She wasn’t sure whether what she was saying was true or not, but surely it had to mean Integra trusted her at least a little bit to let her do this. Or maybe her master’s master just felt sorry for her. Though Sir Integra never struck her as the woman to let pity cloud her judgement.

“I haven’t got long,” Seras admitted with a sigh before chuckling. “My curfew is at ten. They’re like my family in a way – though it is slightly dysfunctional. I wish you could have met them.”

The young vampire stroked one of her fingers across their names.

“I hope that I can visit you again soon.” Seras stood up before blowing them a gently kiss. “I love you both so much.”

The graveyard remained silent.

With a heavy heart, Seras turned around, unable to bring herself to look back as she followed the path she had used earlier. The night was growing darker and darker, and she knew that Integra would probably be getting restless over a vampire wandering around on her own like this. Just because she had agreed to let Seras do this probably didn’t mean that she liked it. Seras didn’t want to push her luck. Especially if she hoped to return here one day soon.

As she walked home, she tugged on the trim of her coat, hoping that Integra didn’t ask her too many questions when she returned. She wasn’t sure if she was in the mood to talk to anyone right now. She just wanted to be on her own to wallow in self-pity. She had every intention of locking herself in her room and pretending that the rest of the world didn’t exist. She had been feeling this way ever since she realised that the fiftieth anniversary was fast approaching.

It had never really affected her this badly before, but lately, it seemed like all of her pent up emotions towards the incident was catching up with her. That anger she had long since pushed down since she was a child was now bubbling to the surface once again. She felt like a volcano ready to erupt in an explosion that rivalled Krakatoa.

The memories of the nuns sent shivers down Seras’ spine.

“You know what we do with naughty girls who can’t behave themselves,” Seras found herself saying the words out loud.

Seras quickly pushed those memories back.

It took over an hour, but Seras finally made it back to the Hellsing estate without incident. She checked her watch and saw that she still had half an hour to spare. Hopefully that would please Sir Integra.
The heavily armed guards by the gates gave her a quick salute before letting her inside. They tried to avoid eye contact with her, and the vampire could smell the fear and adrenaline in their blood. It caused her stomach to do a flip, but she ignored it. Even though she hadn’t been drinking properly lately, she still manage to ignore that siren’s call. She had little to no appetite at the moment. She just hoped that her master hadn’t noticed, but no doubt he would if he hadn’t already. If he had noticed, he hadn’t said anything.

As Seras walked up the long and winding road, the mansion finally came to view in an inviting orange glow. The occasional soldier walked past, patrolling the perimeter, but apart from that, the whole area was completely quiet. The vampire thought about sneaking back in through one of the back entrances, but thought it was best to make her return known so people wouldn’t suspect that anything was wrong. That and it would hopefully reassure Sir Integra.

However, Seras’ musings were soon interrupted by something soft brushing against her leg.

Meow.

Seras beamed and glanced down at her feet where the tiny grey kitten was rubbing its face against her ankle. It purred as it wrapped itself around her leg, and Seras wasted no time in scoping up the adorable little kitten, sapphire blue eyes meeting ruby red ones.

“Rosie! What are you doing out here, you little rascal! You know Sir Integra won’t be happy if she catches you out here,” Seras scolded, but it was impossible to stay mad at that adorable little face that stared back at her blankly. She quickly giggled before pulling the kitten against her chest, nuzzling her face into the thick, soft fur that never failed to comfort her.

She had only had Rosie a few months, but they were already super close. It was rare that you saw one without the other these days. Seras had found the stray kitten trembling under a rose bush after having being shot at by a soldier who was startled at the sight of a cat suddenly running across the grounds of the estate. It took a while for Seras to coax it back out, but it was love at first sight.

At first, she had tried to keep the kitten hidden, knowing that the answer would be no if she asked to keep it. However the secret didn’t last long when the kitten had somehow managed to escape her room one night and Sir Integra had gotten the fright of her life when the little feline jumped onto her lap while she was drinking a cup of tea. Hot tea had spilled all over her as she had shrieked in surprise before pulling out her gun to shoot at the creature.

Alucard had not been far behind her and was about to squish the poor cat before Seras had jumped in between them, almost getting herself squashed in the process.

Luckily, after hours of begging and pleading, Integra relented and let her ‘keep the blasted thing’, as she had put it. Her master had been less than happy, constantly hissing and growling at the poor kitten. Seras had teased him that he was just jealous of the attention that she was giving it. Though she had immediately regretted that joke when he threatened to eat the poor cat. So now Seras definitely didn’t leave him alone with the kitten. He would warm to it soon… she hoped…

“Let’s get you inside where it’s warm,” Seras cooed as she made her way to the front doors. They automatically opened for her, much to her shock, but she did her best to smile warmly when Henry greeted her upon entrance.

“Did you have a nice walk, my lady?” he asked, bowing slightly before closing the door behind her.

“Ummm, yes, thank you, Henry,” Seras replied. “Can you let Sir Integra know that I’m back?”

“Of course, my lady.” He bowed again before heading in the direction of Integra’s main office.

Seras puffed out her cheeks as she watched the butler retreat. She missed Walter, no matter how long it had been and despite the fact that he had betrayed them in the end. Henry was nice and did his job well, but it just wasn’t the same. She heard that he had once been an agent for MI5 before retiring from all of that. He was a tall man in his sixties with a grey moustache and thinning grey hair. But he could hold his own in a fight, which was definitely needed if you wanted to work in this place.

“Where have you been?” A cold voice startled Seras and she nearly jumped out of her skin.

“GAH! Master, you scared me!” she huffed at him, clinging to Rosie even tighter.

She automatically took a step back as the superior vampire towered over her. He was looking down at her completely expressionless, his orange glasses hiding his eyes as usual. She made sure to keep her mind blank in case he decided to break his promise and invade her thoughts. He seemed to have been good to his word so far, but Seras wasn’t taking any chances. She was enjoying her new-found privacy, especially as of late. No doubt her master would berate her for being so sentimental.

“You didn’t answer my question,” he pressed.

“S-so?” Seras stupidly stuttered. “I don’t have to tell you everything I get up to.”

Alucard raised an eyebrow at her and Seras knew that he was hoping that she would cave in any second and come clean like she normally did. But not this time!

“It’s none of your business anyway,” the female vampire added, narrowing her eyes as she looked away from him.

“As your master, it is indeed my business.”

Seras felt him follow her as she took another step back.

“Alucard!” a strict voice called from the stop of the stairs. “Leave the Police Girl alone!”

Seras looked up, grateful that Sir Integra had stepped in when she had. She really didn’t want to disclose this information to her master. This was personal and private. He would never understand and likely call her an idiot like he usually did. She loved and adored her master, but this was just something that she wanted to be left alone to deal with herself. She had only confided in Integra because Seras needed her permission to do anything. It had been uncomfortable, but was far easier than confiding in her master.

“Why was she allowed out without me?” Alucard demanded his master, seeming almost offended and… worried? Though Seras probably imagined that last part.

“It is a private matter,” Integra responded, always unintimidated by Alucard.

Seras shot her a grateful look.

“Anything to do with the Police Girl immediately involves me,” he argued.

“I have a name y’know,” Seras sighed out, but they both ignored her.

“You forget your place, servant,” Integra spoke to Alucard as she began making her way slowly down the stairs, her wrinkled face frowning as she regarded the two of them. “The Police Girl merely wanted some time alone which I granted permission for under strict conditions which she has obeyed.”

“Why was I not consulted?” Alucard was growing more and more impatient.

“You didn’t need to know.” Integra remained firm.

Alucard closed his eyes and let out a threatening chuckle. “Are you ladies keeping secrets from me?”

“Not everything’s about you, y’know.” Seras rolled her eyes, stepping away from the scene and heading down towards the deeper levels of the mansion where her room was located.

“I will speak with you later!” she heard her master call to her as she turned a corner in the corridor.

Whatever, Seras thought to herself. She wasn’t a child. She could look after herself. Why was he so bothered anyway? He probably just resented the fact that he was being kept out of the loop. The female vampire knew that he could have a habit of being controlling, but this was ridiculous. She had only been gone for two, maybe three hours at the most. It was hardly the end of the world.

When she finally reached her room, she locked her door behind her, not that it would stop her master if he was determined to get answers out of her. But it still provided Seras with a sense of security. Her back instantly rested against the door before she let Rosie drop out of her arms who ran straight towards a ball of yarn that Seras had gotten for her. The little kitten purred happily to herself which made the vampire crack a smile as she pushed herself away from the door and collapsed onto her couch.

Her lamp gave the room a warm orange glow, along with the fire that had remained burning for a while now to ensure that Rosie stayed nice and warm. Despite being a vampire, Seras felt exhausted. This trip had taken much more out of her than she thought.

With a sigh, the draculina unbuttoned her coat and tossed it onto the back of her small couch before her hat, gloves and scarf soon followed. Rosie then jumped up at her, curling her tiny body against the vampire’s chest, purring peacefully as they nuzzled each other. Seras moved one hand up to rest it against her kitten, weaving her fingers through the soft silver fur that always reminded Seras of the moon.

As she lay there, her eyes drifted towards all of the pictures and posters hung up on the adjacent wall. Over the years, she had created a mood board of sorts to try and brighten up her windowless dungeon disguised as a bedroom. The stone walls never failed to remind Seras that she was technically a prisoner here, so she tried to cover them up as best as she could. There were posters of her favourite band, some art pieces that she liked, along with many photos. A lot of them featured her life here at the Hellsing organisation. There were pictures of her posing with soldiers she had somewhat befriended, along with pictures of her and a reluctant Integra. Her favourite one was the photo where she had organised a surprise fortieth birthday party for Integra, where the knight sat in front of a birthday cake, looking awkward as Seras had placed a party hat on her head as she smiled cheerfully behind her.

Seras enjoyed making this place more like a family home. All work and no play was boring. As the years went by, her confidence grew and the more comfortable she felt in this place. She even found herself standing up to her master a lot more now, much to his chagrin. Yet he never punished her over it like she expected.

She smiled to herself as she gazed at the few pictures she had of her master. He never cared much for photographs and was usually only caught in the frame by accident. There was one time Seras had tried to snap a picture of him reading in the library, only to be snarled at by him mid-shot. The resulting photo was a black and red blurry mess, but Seras kept it nevertheless. However, there was one picture she had managed to capture of her master where he seemed to have a genuine smile on his face. It had been taken last year at a ball held in honour of King Charles III as a sort of thank you for funding the Hellsing organisation and helping keep Britain safe.

The picture had been taken by Henry of the moment that Seras joined the party. She was making her way down the stairs in a sleeveless black frock that flared down to her knees, showing off her smooth pale skin. It was one of those rare occasions where she had actually worn high heels and made an effort with her hair which was tied back with a loose bun. Her master was at the bottom of the stairs among the crowd, smiling up at her, his jaw almost appearing slack. It was quite comical yet touching to see such a tender and soft expression on his face. It was such a rarity that Seras just had to have a copy of the picture and hang it up on her wall.

Her thoughts were quickly interrupted, however, when there was a sharp knock on her door.

Seras groaned. “Go away, master, I’m not in the mood.”

“It’s me,” a more feminine voice greeted from behind the thick wood.

Seras quickly shot up, startling Rosie in the process as she hissed and hid under the couch. The vampire quickly made her way to the door to unlock it and let Sir Integra in. She really didn’t want to have to deal with her either, but she would take Integra over her master right now.

Sneak Peak | Hellsing Fanfiction: Castles In The Air

Seras wasn’t sure how long she had spent curled up in her coffin. She barely had the motivation to move as dried blood tears stained her cheeks. One hand rested under her head acting as a pillow, while the other was curled into a fist near her chest. Her wild blonde hair covered most of her face from view. The Hellsing uniform she usually wore had been replaced with a short black dress and black tights, not that there had ended up being much point in doing so.

Ever since the death of Integra, Seras had been confined to her chambers to await her fate. She hadn’t even been allowed to attend the funeral, despite insisting on her desire to say goodbye. Integra had not only been her boss; she was her friend. The young vampire came to accept long ago that Integra was mortal and that she would never join her and her master in this life. Integra’s role had always been to defeat creatures of the night, not join them. Her humanity was her greatest treasure – her greatest strength. The knight could have killed Seras upon her creation… but she didn’t. She took Seras under her wing and provided her with a new life; a fresh start. She provided her with training, advice, a home… a family.

Now she was gone…

This day would always come, but Seras had perhaps been in denial that it would come so soon. Time felt different now that she was a vampire. Years now felt like mere days. While Seras’ features remained frozen and unchanging, Integra’s developed lines and wrinkles. Her once platinum blonde hair faded to white, and though she had remained strong to the end, Seras could always tell that her boss couldn’t move like she used to. She never lost her beauty though. And now the time had finally arrived where Integra would no longer be a part of her long, eternal life.

Her end had been swift, and Seras supposed she should be thankful for that. She had heard it herself. The very moment that the iron maiden’s heart had stopped. The very moment the last breath escaped past her lips. And she hadn’t been there… Seras had promised that she would always be by Integra’s side to protect her, but instead she had been confined to her room by the Round Table.

Master…

How was he coping with all of this? The Draculina had not heard from him since that night. She was alone. Alone and powerless as she awaited what happened next. Like an abandoned puppy, she had tried to reach out to him through their bond, but was only met with a tall concrete wall that refused to budge. He was blocking her out. She desperately wanted to be there for him. She had no idea how all of this was effecting him. He cared for Integra. The woman had been more than a mere master to him. From what Seras could gather, her master had practically helped raise her. Even though her master must be used to death at this point, Seras failed to imagine that even he was immune to feelings of loss. Especially the loss of a master he had been so close to.

Fresh tears began to burn in the corners of her eyes again.

Oh, Sir Integra, she thought with a whimper. I’m going to miss you so much.

The Draculina curled into an even tighter ball and buried her face into her knees. Maybe if she made herself as small as possible, she might just disappear from this world altogether. Her undead heart clenched painfully, almost as if chains had been wrapped around it, pulling tighter and tighter until she felt like she was suffocating. Grief crashed over her like the rough waves of a storm. She barely had time to gasp for air when she reached the surface as another wave would crash into her. Around and around she would roll until she had no idea which way the surface was anymore. Rocks and sharp coral would stab against her skin, but nothing was visible in the darkness of the stormy waters. Seras closed her eyes, just wanting it all to end.

Something light slithered over her ankle, and Seras gasped as her eyes snapped open. More shadowy ropes curled around her, caressing her wrist and tangling themselves in her hair. Her heart lurched at the sensation, and despite her initial shock, she immediately felt comforted by them. Each touch against her skin made her tingle and relax further into their attentions.

“Seras.”

The lid of her coffin was pried open, but the light of the room’s lamps was instantly blocked by a large figure. A red coat covered most of their form, and their thick black hair hid most of their features save for two glowing red eyes. All Seras could do was stare up in awe at her master. He was all she had left in the world now. Though she hadn’t expect him to come visit her. How had he even done so? Wouldn’t he be under strict orders to stay in his chambers like Seras was?

A bare hand reached down to gently wipe away a tear from her cheek.

Wait… bare?

Seras gasped again, and she grabbed hold of her master’s large hand between her much smaller ones. Her sense hadn’t deceived her – his gloves were gone! She was vaguely aware of her master chuckling at her reaction, but the Draculina paid it no mind. She was stunned into silence. Her master seemed content to let her examine his hand as his eyes burned into her. But Seras could simply not get over his un-gloved hands. It was so strange. So unnerving. All her un-life, her master’s power was chained by the rune covered gloves. And now… he was free…

An involuntary shiver wiggled like a worm up her spine, and she quickly hid her fear, not wanting to offend him. It was great that he was free. Wasn’t it? She loved and trusted her master more than anything, but… surely it would be foolish to not be a little cautious about this situation? After all, Seras had seen what her master was capable of at full power during their battle with Millennium. It was probably the reality of the unknown that was her greatest fear. What happened now? Would her master even still want her around?

“Seras,” he spoke softly again. His expression became more serious and stoic as he stared down at her. He pulled his hand out of her grasp to then rest it on the rim of her coffin. The young vampire wished more than anything right now that she could master the art of telepathy – not that her master would ever allow her in anyway. She could only reach through their bond and get little hints of feelings, but that was it. Right now, Seras wanted to know the full detail of what her master was thinking. Then maybe she would better know what to do or say. Because in this moment, all she could do was remain frozen, like a small prey animal waiting for the predator to make the first move and give chase.

“There’s no need to cry, my dear,” he said. “All is well.”

Seras couldn’t help but furrow her eyebrows in confusion at that one.

“With Sir Integra’s death, my ties to this family are now broken. There is nobody left to chain me here. The gloves vanished the moment her heart gave its last beat,” he explained, though there was a strange look in his eye. His hand shook as he gripped the wooden coffin even tighter. Seras’ eyes flickered to his hand as the wood creaked under the pressure, but she didn’t dare utter a word.

“Again, I offer you a choice, Seras Victoria,” the older vampire continued, not even blinking as he stared intensely into Seras’ eyes. “Will you follow me out into the night?”

Seras already knew her answer, but there were still questions burning at the back of her mind.

“But…” she began cautiously. “What about the round table?”

Alucard grinned. “They have no authority over me.”

“Hellsing?”

“Will be disbanded. No doubt a new organisation will take its place. I don’t intend on sticking around long enough to find out.”
